Many people are surprised when I tell them Social Tables was an employee-owned company and that, thus, 162 of our cap table’s 210 rows (77%) were current and former employees (the rest were advisors and investors).Įmployee equity, on top of other standard compensation, was in exchange for their commitment and hard work over the years, which made our exit possible.īut equity is more than a compensation instrument.

For 50% of these folks (82) that figure was five figures or more. When Social Tables sold, every employee (and former employee who exercised their stock options) saw their equity convert to cash.
